General Joseph Wheeler Conversion.

CHINTOYS makes four sets of Union and Confederate 1/32 scale Officers. Two sets are mounted and the other dismounted. Generally good accurate poses.  One of the leaders included is Nathan Bedford Forrest. Sure it's a "useful" and well known Confederate General but there were other Confederate cavalry leaders not as notorious. I decided to convert the figure to General Joseph Wheeler One reason is that it takes very little to convert Forrest to Wheeler other than trimming the beard and reshaping the hat.

Original Nathan Bedford Forrest figure I painted.

A successful General who committed a war crime at Fort Pillow. Became a leader of the post war KKK. Recanted that and reached out to black citizens as long as they stayed in their place.

Colorized period photo of Joseph Wheeler.

Wheeler's uniform coat at the Museum of the Confederacy at Appomattox.

Statue in the United States Capitol from Alabama that show his gear. Same binocular case and no sash as on the Forrest figurine. The statue also shows his hat.

My conversion to Wheeler.

Note white color and a more battered hat.

Luckily the original figure has buttons set in threes which is correct for Wheeler's general uniform. The sleeve braid is HARD to paint so this is my "Impressionist" version.

I "like" Wheeler because to served in the United States Army as a general during the Spanish American War .
