I loved the General Lee (actually I loved Daisy Duke!), I think, whoever loves it and for whatever reason, it's had its day now, everything changes, nothing stays the same...and look what the North did to the corporate flag of the East India company!!!
It´s an odd Thing what´s going on...the flag didn´t do anything and I´m sure there´s a hell of a lot of People who see it in an entirely different light than it´s being made out. Will it not be able to be used for say wargaming and re-enactments now ? Will they (the state) make it an offence to Show pics of it on the Internet even in an historical context..the same as with the swastika here? Does criminalising an inanimate object make it more attractive to the bad side it could (or does) represent?
The cases here in the states involve CS flag display on taxpayer property. The demographics in the US south are become more non-white and more people that don't have an 1860s family heritage. The over reactions seem to be mostly "what if?" and "slippery slope" arguments. Some jokes are that public CS flag display makes it easier to spot people you want to avoid.

A lot of that stuff is fun . The Beverly Hillbillies show as well . Historically hill people tended to be Unionist.
DeleteIs there any flag that's 'clean' ?
ReplyDeleteIn this case the ideals stated in the founding documents of the Confederate States of America are past shelve life.
