Looking at them before painting I decided not to give them the one color treatment. A quick search on the "interwebs" gave me the existence of variation of all the instruments in the band at the time of the Civil War. The accordion was fairly new. Museum collections on-line will give you the colors of the instruments as well.
I can also see these figures as story tellers or social commentators for future blog posts.
