Neat old French cartoon

This is from an 1886 issue of La Caricature. I think it translates as "Force of habit."

It didn't say who the subject was. Perhaps a retiring general from 1886 current events that "everyone" knew. (Caran D'Ache was the artist.)

I like the 1830s-1840s uniforms and the sentiment.

If you like old illustrations, try this link for La Caricature. Issues go from 1881 to 1904.

"Joy of the Regiment"

" Lolilla, regimental canteen of Alfonso XII, who campaigns in Morocco, has been nicknamed by the soldiers "Joy of the Regiment"

The woman most popular of Spain, at present, is certainly "Lolilla, the regimental sutler of Alfonso XII, which is the country of Morocco.
Lolilla, (who) is a very pure type of Spanish beauty, is nicknamed "la alegria del regimento" (the joy of the Regiment).
Fearless, tireless, she is seen sometimes at the bedside of the wounded, sometimes under the tent where she writes under the dictation of soldiers, letters to (sweet hearts) in Andalusian waiting, anxious, the end of the campaign ..

Spanish Cantiniere in Morocco

"Marruecos" 1909, Asunción Martos, "cantinera del batallón de cazadores de Talavera."

This shot looks like a studio with painted backdrop...

Fictional "nurse" based on the cantiniere....

Plus a modern illustration...
