In the film Monroe's character calls the "top" a camisole, a garment that went over the chemise and corset. The costume obviously doesn't include those garments although Marilyn Monroe must be wearing some type of bra. The film made late 19th century underwear more acceptable to 1950s audiences by treating the top as a T-Shirt. The construction of the drawers is tight without room for the chemise to go under.
BUT......Marilyn Monroe looks great!
A further much used movie trick is that a woman will accept a man's clothing but it with automatically fit to her to her advantage!
