Where is Charles II?

By Replicant.

  1. Hee hee! God Save the King! One of the best things about this bit of history is that there are so many pubs named after it - I downed many a pint of ale in 'The Royal Oak', Woodstock Road, Oxford, and every one a salute to the Restoration!

  2. My "Royal Oak" pub is on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Canada. I had a few pints there myself before I twigged to the story about Charles and the oak tree. And I had always wondered why the Brits would name a ship the Royal Oak, too.
