Hee hee! God Save the King! One of the best things about this bit of history is that there are so many pubs named after it - I downed many a pint of ale in 'The Royal Oak', Woodstock Road, Oxford, and every one a salute to the Restoration!
My "Royal Oak" pub is on the Rideau Canal in Ottawa, Canada. I had a few pints there myself before I twigged to the story about Charles and the oak tree. And I had always wondered why the Brits would name a ship the Royal Oak, too.
Very, very clever! Loved it.
