A novel of a boy who goes to the Napoleonic Wars. Great old illustrations by Phiz. and H. Browne for two different editions.  A number are of the cantiniere character  Minnette. The illustrations have a definite mid 1800s look of the cantiniere frock and trousers rather that the skirt and leggings seen in period  illustrations of Napoleon I cantinieres. As in the novel Under Two Flags, where the cantiniere "Cigarette" is killed,  Minnette dies a noble death.
