German Marketenderin AGAIN!

I'm still looking for original Marketenderin images from the Austrian Prussian War of 1866 and the Franco Prussians War. (Hey..... even the Danish-Prussian War if I can. )

A couple of recent images have turned up ....a French illustration of Bavarian Troops in 1866.

Note that this woman below in the picture detail wears civilian clothing with her skirt looped up. It's possible that the looping is while working while the skirt could be let down on other occasions. This style can be seen in period images of working women.

This image is probably early 1900s and the Marketenderin is selling beer. Nice.

This German image from 1871 of troops in the Paris suburb of  Saint-Denis
shows a woman selling drinks from a cart. She MAY be a Marketenderin.

For context, here are two images I've posted before of this 1866-1861 period. Prussian P.O.W. Marketenderin in Vienna...

A Prussian cart in 1870. I can't tell if the figure in the cart handing out drinks is a woman or not. The woman doing her hair seems to have civilian style clothing.

In 1855, the German humor magazine Kladderadatsch showed the military influence of the Crimean War on women's fashions with a collection of cartoons of Markentenderin costumes. Click to enlarge...

Let's Bungle In The Jungle.

The only figures I've seen reproduced from MARX's "Jungle Jim "set are these two; The Missionary and the Huntress. From one source, these two figures were cut from the later MARX "Daktari" set. Maybe that's why the mold is available for The Hobby Bunker to reproduce.

Other MARX accessories can be added for fun and political comment.

Where have I Seen These Guys Before?

Photos for this year's reenactment of the Battle Of Chlum  and Hradec Králové.

This handsome looking Hussar unit reminds me of something.......OH YES! The Baron Rolfe Von Stuppe's guards in The GREAT RACE.

Below they even tried to abuse AMERICAN CITIZEN Keenan Wynn!

"Teddy Roosevelt shall hear of this!"

Natalie Wood did look great in one of their jackets.

I haven't been able to find the website of this cavalry reenactment unit. If anyone out their knows please post.

Recent Acquisitions 2 ...A Bag of Snobs!

Marx Fox Hunt figures are reproduced by the HOBBY BUNKER in Malden, Mass. No horses included but they fit on IMEX horses. They might be of interest to folks that like Britains Ltd farm and stable figures or the horse sets that were in the old FAO Schwarz catalogs. That was back when I thought Britains Ltd, Corgy, Timpo and Dinky Toys were only for the rich kids.

I see these figures as having Victorian conversion possibilities.

Recent acquisitions......

Safari Ltd. figures. Found at art stores and museum shops. About $6 U.S.D.

A few of these could make a "Village People" play set or diorama.

The Marketenderinnen of the Battle of Koniggratz 2011

This year must have been warm or the ladies have dropped any Prussian reserve. Their "uniforms" as I have posted in the past seem to based on sketches of Zinnfigurin rather than a period source.

If anyone out there has seen a period photo or image of a German Markentenderin in this style uniform, please let me know. Here are a few photos of this years 1866 reenactment. The unterhosen seem to be an important feature....

Just Before 1st Bull Run.

(This was also a gag we used to pull in REENACTING when we marched by a pretty woman.)
