Albert Guillaume (1873-1942)

I just "discovered" this artist from the postcards of his work.

"Albert Guillaume was one of the best-known French caricaturists of the "Belle Epoque". He made posters for theatre and advertising. His satirical drawings and comic stories were published in the Parisian magazines of the time, such as Gil Blas, Le Rire, L'Assiette au Beurre and Le Figaro. Much of his work was also printed in books by publishers like Jules Tallandier, Ernest Maindron and Henri Simonis. He also published three albums with military drawings, including 'Mes Campagnes' (1896)."

I like this set of postcards, some promotional to a chocolate brand, from his army series. It might be Guillaume himself in the pictures "drafted" to paint the colonel and his family. The "student of Bonnat" titles may be a joke on the artist named Bonnat.

As you can see the artist improved on the actual features of the colonel and his family.
