Les Vivandières de l'Armée française
I found this book of prints on the French Gallica site where I have also found French magazines. Use the search feature and put in "Costume Militaire" for an embarrassment of riches of Uniform books online.
Here are samples from.....

With in the years covered you'll find illustrated French news stories that include the military actions of France and other countries including the Russo Turkist War and the Third Carlist War. There are even illustrations of the German Army. Will we see war game figures of these 1890s ski troopers?

MORE... MARX Civil War figures LEE'S HQ
Repros of the MARX Confederates. The Union figures have been redone in Gray plastic.
I've converted multiple versions of the wagon/limber rider above to "Florida Cavalry" with shot guns.

The above figure is a HOBBY BUNKER repro of the falling rider.

MARX Civil War figures LEE'S HQ
If you are going to play...PLAY. Grown-ups can get as many figures as they can afford. Here's a set up of General Robert E. Lee's HQ somewhere just outside of Richmond. President Jefferson Davis was known to ride to the sound of the guns in the battles around Richmond and confers with the General.
These are mostly reproduction MARX figures from various sources. Classic Toy Soldiers makes some nice Marx style artillery, Wagons and a bigger version of the Southern Mansion from the old series.
A figure from the MARX farm can be added along with Pat Brady from the Roy Rogers set.
You can add the slave girl from The Ben Hur set and the Colonial woman.
Here's the Quarter master.
The hospital is made up of the various wounded figures, stretcher bearers, and dead gangsters from The Untouchables set.

Fishing humor
I've never seen it. You've never see it. Women fishing in skirts or at least catching themselves. The joke goes back to at least 1864...
Usually the woman is the victim of the fisherman as in the Three Stooges and Benny Hill. This joke goes way back as well.

French Foreign Legion Postcards
These are not very good scans and not the whole series of comic postcards of the history of the French Foreign Legion. I found them on the Delcampe auction site. They're crude but fun versions of period uniforms of the Legion and where it fought.
